How to keep selling when the internet is down
Internet and power cuts should not stop the till. APOPS POS keeps your item list, prices and open shift on the counter device, sells offline and uploads the sales by itself when the connection is back. Some shops work offline all day and connect once to bring the reports up to date.
- APOPS POS set up, with the app installed on the counter device
- A shift opened while online
Steps
Open the till once while online
Sign in and open the APOPS POS app on the counter device. It keeps the settings, the item list and your open shift on the device.
Sell as usual when the connection drops
The status turns to Offline. Scan or search items, and take cash, card or the M-Pesa code from the customer's message. The receipt prints from the device with an offline number such as OFF-T1-261030-0001.
Let the sales upload by themselves
When the internet is back, the sales upload on their own, into the shift they belong to, at the price the customer saw and the time they were made. The status shows how many are still waiting.
Check anything flagged
If a price changed meanwhile, an M-Pesa code was used before, a discount was above the limit or the stock had run out, the sale is still recorded and flagged for the supervisor.
Close the shift online
Closing the shift (the cash count) and the reports need the internet. Once the sales have uploaded, close the shift and the reports, invoices and stock are up to date.
Tips
- The M-Pesa prompt, refunds and self-service need the internet; cash, card and M-Pesa codes do not.
- An offline receipt number stays valid for returns: search for it in Refunds.
