Point of sale and stock management for Kenyan businesses

APOPS POS, the CheckThis point of sale, sells at the counter and keeps your stock right in one place, even without internet. Scan the goods, take cash, card or M-Pesa, and print the receipt. Every sale takes the goods out of the store at once, so what you sold and what is on the shelf always agree.

Questions

Is there a till screen with a cash drawer and receipt printer?

Yes. APOPS POS runs in the browser on a computer or tablet at the counter. Receipts print on 58 mm or 80 mm thermal printers, and a cash drawer connected to the printer opens when the receipt prints. Every drawer opening without a sale is logged.

Do I need to buy a barcode scanner?

No. On an Android phone or tablet, the camera scans the barcodes in APOPS POS and in Stock management, so the phone or tablet can be the whole till. A USB or Bluetooth scanner also works if your counter is very busy, and on a Windows computer or an iPhone, where the browser cannot use the camera for barcodes yet. Items without a barcode can be given one in Stock management.

Can customers pay by M-Pesa at the counter?

Yes. Send an M-Pesa prompt to the customer's phone and the sale completes when Safaricom confirms the payment, or type the M-Pesa code from the customer's message. Each code can be used only once.

Does it send invoices to KRA eTIMS?

CheckThis does not submit to eTIMS itself. The receipt shows your KRA PIN and the VAT, and you attach the eTIMS invoice where KRA requires one.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Install the APOPS POS app on the counter computer or tablet. Without internet it keeps selling by cash, card and M-Pesa code from the item list kept on the device, prints receipts, and uploads the sales by itself when the connection is back. The M-Pesa prompt needs the internet.

Can a pharmacy or supermarket track expiry dates?

Yes. Items can be tracked by batch and expiry date. The oldest-expiring batch is sold first, items close to expiry are listed in advance, and expired or recalled batches cannot be sold.
