How to add a customer screen and self-service
A customer-facing screen shows each item and the total as it is rung up, and lets the customer type their own M-Pesa number. Self-service lets customers pick and pay by themselves, for example at a buffet.
- APOPS POS set up
- A second monitor (customer screen) or a tablet (self-service)
- M-Pesa prompts set up in APOPS Pay, for self-service
Steps
Connect the second screen
Plug a second monitor into the counter computer and turn it towards the customer.
Open the customer screen
On the till press Customer screen and drag the window that opens onto the second monitor. It shows the items, the total, the VAT, the M-Pesa waiting message and the change. It works on the same computer, also without internet.
Let the customer type their number
The customer taps Pay by M-Pesa: add my number on the customer screen and types it on the large keypad. The number fills in on the till for the M-Pesa prompt and the receipt.
Start self-service on a tablet
A supervisor opens APOPS POS on the tablet and presses Self-service. Customers tap or scan what they take, enter their M-Pesa number and approve the prompt on their own phone; the sale goes to the supervisor's open shift and the screen resets for the next customer.
Tips
- Self-service needs the internet and M-Pesa prompts; the customer screen does not.
- Use the large touch keypad on the till for cash received, quantities and codes on touch screens.
